ABS received the Best Classification Society award at the seventh ShipTek International Conference and International Maritime Awards on 29 May in Dubai. The occasion marks the fourth year ABS received this award.
“Great class services and innovative technology are paramount to our classification society,” said ABS Regional Vice President of the Middle East Joe Brincat. “The foundation of ABS enables us to provide excellent service delivery to our clients. What differentiates ABS is our class-centric focus that will continue to fuel ABS’ success in the region.”
The ShipTek Awards Judging Committee highlighted that the award is in recognition of ABS’ focus and commitment to safety, quality, social and environmental responsibility and its diligent effort and involvement in the training and development of personnel. The committee also mentioned that ABS’ standards of excellence in the Middle East contributes toward the development of a more efficient marine and offshore industry that distinguishes ABS as a leader in class services for this crucial energy market.
“ABS has maintained a strong presence in the Middle East region for more than 35 years,” Brincat said. “Throughout the years, our office network has expanded to meet the growing importance of region as both a shipping and offshore center.”
Brincat and ABS Senior Engineer Mei Yan Soh also represented ABS at ShipTek 2016. Brincat served as moderator for the morning sessions, oversaw presentations and discussions, and led the question and answer exchanges. The sessions highlighted technical analysis, International Maritime Organization (IMO) updates, upcoming legislation and regulations and operational costs both on the tanker market as well as offshore support vessels.
Soh gave a presentation that provided an update on IMO and the U.S. Ballast Water Management regulations. The presentation shared the latest news and highlights from the IMO Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC 69) meeting that took place in April.
