Cyber threats in the maritime and offshore industries are unpredictable, invisible, and potentially devastating. Every system, computer or device that connects to the internet needs a reliable and resilient cyber security system to protect it. In this way, cyber security affects every part of our industry.
THE FCI Cyber Risk Methodology
At the 2019 Offshore Technology conference, ABS addressed the foundation of the company's FCI Cyber Risk methodology, a specific approach to identify and address Operational Technology (OT) cyber risk, and how it can safeguard against cyber threats to offshore operations on MODUs, drillships, and offshore support vessels.
ABS Advanced Solutions also has partnered with outside companies such as SecurityGate and Mission Secure Inc (MSi) to integrate the FCI Cyber Risk Model with outside platforms providing enhanced cyber defense visibility and protection of systems that operate modern day vessels and offshore platforms.
Recent Changes on Cyber from U.S. Coast Guard
The U.S. Coast Guard has historically created policy through Navigation and Vessel Inspection Circulars (NVICs). Recently, the U.S. Coast Guard released Change 5 to the NVIC 09-02, which includes cyber security in its guidelines making cyber security risk management part of its regulation.
