ABS Service Providers

Service Providers are firms who perform specialized services that support manufacturing and or inspection of a product or system. This certification is for qualified service providers who offer specialized services that support manufacturing activities, asset monitoring and enhance marine and offshore safety practices. These service specializations are not covered by IACS UR Z17 and ABS Service Suppliers. 


For those who can demonstrate conformance to ABS requirements and applicable industry standards, ABS offers recognition as an certified Service Provider.


ELIGIBILITY

Service providers maintain a quality management system and have a valid ISO 9001 Certification or equivalent.  New service types are always added on a case-by-case basis. 

Examples of Eligible Specialties

  • Asset layup and reactivation
  • Biological testing of ballast water management systems
  • CyberSafety in accordance with Guide for ABS CyberSafety
  • Nondestructive testing
  • Polar Code
  • Smart Functions in accordance with ABS Guide for Smart Functions Section 7
  • Installation and/or maintenance of equipment
  • Laser peening
  • Machining, refurbishing and overhaul of equipment
  • Testing services and facilities (e.g. material testing laboratories)
  • Welding fabrication (excluding WPS and WQR qualifications)

CERTIFICATION PROCESS
STEP 01 Complete the Service Provider online form.
STEP 02 Documentation review
STEP 03 Facility audit
STEP 04 Practical demonstration
STEP 05 Satisfactory reporting
STEP 06 Issuance of certificate, valid for 5 years, subject to annual audits
