ABS is working with partners in Europe to ensure a smooth transition whatever the outcome of the negotiations around the exit of the UK from the European Union (EU).
Amidst the current uncertainty, we are closely following developments and preparing our systems to protect clients against a number of potential risks arising from the range of possible outcomes of the process.
We will keep you informed of any developments on this site and via other direct channels.
Under each of the current possible outcomes being considered in the Brexit discussions the status of ABS as a Recognized Organization (RO) in the EU will not be affected.
The EU has confirmed that the recognition of ABS as an RO will not be affected by Brexit.
If you have any questions on ABS as a RO, please get in touch: email@example.com.
ABS Europe Limited, a subsidiary of ABS, is an EU Notified Body for the Marine Equipment Directive (MED). This is one area potentially impacted by the EU/UK negotiations, as ABS Europe Limited is a UK registered company and is accredited for notified body work through the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS).
As a result, we are working to provide alternative arrangements with accreditation of another Member State. For further information we recommend you contact the ABS EU MED team directly on firstname.lastname@example.org to discuss the impact of various timelines and scenarios on your particular certificates.
ABS will also continue to work in partnership with the regulatory authorities in the UK to support clients in accessing UK markets. ABS as a UK Notified Body will continue to be notified by the UK for UK conformity assessment upon exit from the EU and will not need to be re-accredited.
Our EU Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (MRV) services are certified by Greece’s National Accreditation Body, the Hellenic Accreditation System.
As a result, ABS’ EU MRV compliance services are unaffected by the exit of the UK from EU and to continue as normal.
If you have any questions on EU MRV, please get in touch: email@example.com.
ABS is authorized by individual member states to certify compliance with EU Ship Recycling regulation. Irrespective of the outcome of the current negotiations, these services will continue as before.
ABS Statements of Compliance associated with the Inventory of Hazardous Materials and Ready for Recycling are issued on behalf of the relevant Flag Administration and are also unaffected by the exit of the UK from the EU.
If you have any questions on Ship Recycling, please get in touch: firstname.lastname@example.org.
