Topics will include system commissioning tests and contingency planning under the Ballast Water Management Convention, the latest information on fuel oil availability and quality assurance in advance of the 2020 Global Sulphur Cap, and proposed changes impacting energy efficiency requirements and other air emissions-related topics.
Emissions-related topics include clarifications for the IMO Fuel Oil Data Collection System (DCS), continued discussion of EEDI review beyond Phase 2 and minimum propulsion power, and proposals for follow-up actions to the IMO Initial Strategy for Reduction of GHG Emissions from Ships. Additionally, new to the MEPC agenda will be the development of an action plan to address marine plastic litter from ships.

Joseph Gardemal is Manager in ABS’ Regulatory Affairs Department. The ABS Regulatory Affairs team provides advisory support on new and ongoing developments taking place at IMO.
Joseph has been with ABS for 10 years, working previously in the Houston Ship Engineering and Houston Offshore Engineering departments.
Joseph has a B.S. in Civil Engineering, a M.Sc. in Fire Protection Engineering.
