In May 2019, IMO convened the 74 th session of the Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC 74) which focused on key environmental issues impacting shipowners and operators. Topics included the latest guidance on successful implementation of the 2020 Global Sulphur Cap, system commissioning tests under the Ballast Water Management Convention, and proposed changes impacting energy efficiency requirements and other air emissions-related topics. Additionally, there were new developments in the progression of IMO’s goals on reducing greenhouse gas emissions and marine plastic litter from ships.
