Programmed to capture and share a richer array of information, new inspection technologies like UAVs and ROVs support survey data sharing with people on the asset during the inspection and with remote team members, real-time or near real-time. These technologies can deliver significant enhancements in the efficacy of surveys while being less intrusive to the asset, with the potential to decrease asset operational down time and operational expenses while reducing risks like exposure to potentially hazardous environments. By leveraging remote inspection technologies, combined with more effective data collection, ABS is shifting from prescriptive to a risk-based inspection regime – and allowing finite resources to focus on known problem areas.

ABS continues its industry research into these inspection technologies with a goal of improving internal practices and efficiencies.  Companies that offer UAV services can be certified through the ABS Recognized Service Supplier Program.
