ABS at BARI-SHIP 2017

ABS exhibited at the BARI-SHIP 2017 at Texport Imabari, Japan on May25-27.  It is the largest maritime show in Western Japan, where the international conference, special technical seminars and exhibitors’ presentations were held concurrently during the three-day event.

Makoto Oba, Director of Technology & Business Development, ABS, Japan, delivered a presentation on ABS CyberSafety® on the exhibition floor.  The presentation highlighted current system vulnerabilities on vessels, potential affected activities and general introduction of ABS CyberSafety series, certification and assessment process.  The presentation generated a lot of interest, many attendees deem useful and informative with some seeking more information on cyber security.

Imabari is well known as the Japanese maritime cluster where the shipbuilding companies headquartered in this area accounts for around one-third of its annual commercial tonnage build in Japan.  The ship owners in Imabari own one-third of Japan’s oceangoing fleet, and the city is the home to an extensive marine equipment manufacturer. This was the 5th biennial event BARI-SHIP with 347 exhibiting companies including 79 overseas companies from 18 countries and 16,062 visitors.
