ABS Hosts Seminar on MEPC 72, Ballast Water Management and Air Emissions in Hong Kong
ABS hosted a seminar on MEPC 72, Ballast Water Management and Air Emissions in Hong Kong on April 16. 34 representatives from Hong Kong shipping community took advantage of the seminar.
The seminar shared the latest news from the 72nd IMO Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) meeting, which concluded a short time before this seminar. The seminar began with a summary of environmental developments and actions arising from MEPC 72. Then the latest information on the Ballast Water Management Convention was presented, accompanied by an update on ballast water treatment technologies, installation challenges and the USCG compliance policy.
The seminar concluded with a session on specific air emission topics, including an update on the issues surrounding the impending global sulfur cap, exhaust gas scrubber considerations, the IMO Fuel Oil Data Collection System (DCS), and progress toward Green House Gas limits for international shipping.
