Gas Infrastructure

Growing demand for LNG as a clean fuel for onshore consumption, and its increasing application as a means to meet marine engine emission requirements, has seen a spike in interest around the infrastructure and processes needed for its safe storage, transport and handling.

LNG presents numerous technical and operational challenges for asset owners and operators, as well as raising issues of training and regulatory compliance. As the number of LNG terminals and LNG-powered ships increases, there is a need to ensure that both sea staff and shore side personnel understand the cargo or fuel they are working with and its properties.

In its half-century of history, design safety, training, planning and good communications have resulted in an impressive safety record for LNG shipping. Risk assessments and contingency planning added another layer of safety planning.

ABS - together with affiliate company ABS Group - provides a range of services that support the industry as the use of LNG grows. These include ABS Guides on Gas-Fueled Ships and LNG Bunkering and an Advisory on regulations for LNG Bunkering in every US State. ABS Group can assist terminal and vessel operators in developing interface manuals, training loading operations advisors, assessing risk reviewing designs and developing procedures that can enhance communication and support regulatory compliance.

Through its safety, risk and integrity management programmes, ABS combines in-house experience with knowledge of industry practice and regulatory requirements and is well-positioned to support the industry as it expands.
