ABS Japan Hosts Annual Joint Seminar with AMSA and USCG
ABS, with Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) and the United States Coast Guard (USCG), hosted the Annual Port State Control (PSC) Seminar on June 20, 2016 in Yokohama, Japan. The 100 participants at the seminar included ship owners, operators, ship management companies, shipyards and marine personnel.
“The seminar’s primary focus was to update attendees on the latest PSC issues such as industry regulations trading in the United States and Australia waters, the International Maritime Organization regulatory update and lessons learned from PSC detentions,” said ABS Yokohama Director of Technology and Business Development Kazuo Fukahori. “ABS will continue to support our clients by staying informed about significant PSC issues and regulations and sharing what we learn,” he said.
During the seminar, participants had the opportunity to speak with AMSA and USCG representatives on current PSC and ballast water management system issues. Additional discussions of PSC issues stemmed from presentations by Krishnan Raghuram, ABS Assistant Chief Surveyor, Pacific Division, on reducing PSC detentions and Malcolm Collins, AMSA Principal Regional Port Marine Surveyor, Ship Safety-South, who spoke about PSC in Australia. The technical agenda also included, “Trading in U.S. Waters: Coast Guard Air & Water Pollution Prevention Programs” presented by Regina Bergner, USCG Program Manager, Environmental Standard Division, and regulation updates presented by Shuji Maruyama, ABS Advisor, Technology and Business Development.
