ABS Delivers a Series of Offshore Construction Trainings to Shipyards in North China

ABS Greater China Division (GCD) provided a series of offshore construction trainings to Qingdao Haixi Heavy Industry Co., Ltd; Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Offshore Co., Ltd and COSCO (Dalian) Shipyard, and is planning to deliver the trainings to more shipyards in North China in April.

Qingdao Haixi is the first shipyard to participate the series of trainings, which included five sessions covering topics such as Hazardous Area, Cable Installation, Structure, Stainless Steel and Welding.

These topics were determined and developed based on the request of Qingdao Haixi who recently delivered an ABS-classed SEU QMS Achiever. During the post project analysis of this offshore unit, Qingdao Haixi specifically requested a tailored training to address the technical difficulties and challenges they faced when constructing new offshore projects.

ABS GCD responded to this need immediately with training planning and course related materials development. Each session of the tailored trainings attracted nearly 20 representatives from Qingdao Haixi Quality Control and technical relevant departments participating.

After the training, Qingdao Haixi Quality Management Department sent a letter of gratitude to ABS Hua Bei (China North) District and commented, “Through the training, we have improved our specialized knowledge and had a deeper cognition of training contents which are beneficial to our daily work. We appreciate ABS’ long-term great assistance and support to our shipyard.”

Since the training was well received, ABS proactively provided similar trainings to Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Offshore and COSCO (Dalian) Shipyard, and has plan to deliver the trainings to more shipyards in North China such as CIMC Raffles Offshore Limited and Longkou CIMC Raffles Offshore Limited in Yantai, and Shanhaiguan Shipbuilding Industry Co., Ltd and Bohai Shipbuilding Heavy Industry Co., Ltd in Tianjin.

Bo, Shi, ABS GCD Hua Bei (China North) District Manager, said, “These trainings were and will be conducted by our site surveyors who have built close working relationship with the shipyards and understand their needs. Combined with our extensive experience, the series of trainings will address common issues and typical difficulties which will be beneficial to the undergoing offshore projects.”

Darren Leskoski, ABS GCD Vice President of Operations, commented, “We are glad to be able to assist shipyards in further improving offshore construction safety and quality by delivering the subject trainings. The series of trainings are a recent testament of ABS commitment to supporting the Chinese marine and offshore industry. We will continue to provide value-added service and technical support to Chinese shipyards as needed.”
