ABS-Hosted Seminar Addresses PSC Issues to Support Fujian Owners and Operators

ABS Hosts PSC Seminar Fujian Owners Operators

Nearly 50 attendees representing 19 owners, operators and shipping companies from Fujian Province gathered in Fuzhou, China, on 23 August 2016 to learn about Port State Control (PSC) issues in a technical seminar hosted by the ABS Greater China Division (GCD).

Responding to the needs of Fujian owners and operators, ABS organized a half-day seminar covering a broad range of PSC issues, including the Paris MoU Concentrated Inspection Campaign (CIC) on Maritime Labor Convention (MLC) 2006 in 2016, Tokyo MoU CIC on Cargo Securing Arrangements in 2016, and PSC Inspections – Regional Port State Control and MoUs and Port State Detention Case Studies.

“ABS has paid close attention to the latest update of PSC and continues to assist our clients to understand how to enhance operational safety and reduce port state detentions,” says ABS Vice President of Operations, Greater China Division, Darren Leskoski. “It is crucial for ship owners and operators to obtain the latest information in a timely manner, and we are thrilled that our network puts us in position with high quality content to host a seminar like this for the Fujian shipping community. Our plans are to continue to hold these types of events for more clients across China.”

Following the presentations, participants took advantage of the seminar to discuss PSC concerns with ABS technical specialists. The interactive seminar has received positive feedback from participants. One of the attendees said: “This seminar was outstanding.  I feel that the ABS Fujian area team is the most supportive of any class society in helping the ship managers in this difficult market.”

“Many of our Fujian Shipping friends asked that we return again soon with our latest updates,” Darren said, noting, “The experience and knowledge of the ABS presenters was a key element contributing to the success of the seminar.”
