The Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEst), the international body and learned society for marine engineering, science and technology professionals, has named ABS Singapore Country Manager – Pacific Division David Gan to a three-year term as Vice President, beginning 18 March 2016.
One of Gan’s key roles as Vice President is to continue to increase the awareness and promote the work of the institute with respect to local marine activities and to support the development of students and young marine professionals and technology.
Gan takes up the role with his formal introduction to the Institute’s board and other council members at the IMarEST Council meeting in London on 10-11 May, 2016.
“I am honored to be elected to serve IMarEST as the Vice President,” Gan says. “My role is to work closely with the IMarEST Asia Pacific Team to promote the professional and scientific development work of the institute with respect to local activities, conferences, meetings, training programme, and more. I also will work to increase awareness of the importance of the marine industry for a safer, more environmentally friendly operations to students and young working professionals in the Maritime industry in the Asia Pacific region.’
Gan has more than a decade of experience in the maritime industry, working as a surveyor, marine business development and transfer-of-class manager in the Asia region. Trained as an engineer, he has sailed and worked onboard containers, bulk carriers and tankers and earned a Certificate of Competency Class 1 Marine Engineer Officer early in his marine career. Gan has been with ABS for four years and has been in the role of Singapore Country Manager since 2014.
