Several ABS and ABS Group engineers were among the presenters who participated in the first OTC Asia Conference. The event, which was organized by the Society of Petroleum Engineers, was held 25-28 March 2014 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Brian Gibbs, Director of Asset Integrity Management for ABS Group, presented some of the work ABS Group is involved with in his paper, “Managing Life Extension Programs for Aging Floating Offshore Facilities,” coauthored by ABS Group Senior Consultant Thomas Graf on Tuesday, 25 March, and joined in a panel discussion titled, “Managing Aging Infrastructure” on Friday, 28 March.
On Thursday, 27 March, James Brekke, ABS Director, Global Performance Center, Offshore, presented “Watertight Integrity Audits to Mitigate Risks of Progressive Flooding,” a paper co-authored by Merih Unuvar and Joe Rousseau of ABS and Chad Wozniak, a senior consultant with ABS Group.
On Friday, 28 March, ABS Engineer Hung-Pin Chien presented “CFD Study of Deep Draft Semi-Submersible VIM,” a paper co-authored by Sing-Kwan Lee and Hai Gu, from the ABS Singapore Innovation and Research Center (SIRC).
ABS also took part in the knowledge sharing ePoster session on Thursday, with ABS Senior Engineer Xuejun Wang presenting a poster titled, “Assessment on Semi-Submersible Drilling Unit with Fatigue Cracks,” which was coauthored by Zhiping Cheng, Jinlu Kuang, and Hai Gu, from SIRC.
More than 20,000 people attended this year’s conference and exhibition. Organizers already have laid plans for the next OTC Asia, which will be held in Kuala Lumpur in 2016.
