CMHI's Large-scale Offshore Newbuilding Project Starts Up with ABS Class

China Merchants Heavy Industry (Jiangsu) Co., Ltd. (CMHI) performed the steel cutting ceremony for its first drilling tender barge for a Thai owner on 4 December 2014. This uniquely designed unit, which will be classed by ABS, consists of two drilling tender barges that pose some fabricating challenges.

The highly stable design features a significant storage area, accommodations for 200 and the ability to provide support functions for drilling. Aiming to serve the world’s top offshore operators, it is equipped with international-branded facilities, such as the National Oilwell Varco drilling equipment set (DES), three Favelle Favco deck cranes with 400 metric ton capacity and a Marine Aluminium AS telescopic gangway.

This large-scale newbuilding project will not only expand the CMHI (JS) product line, it will also provide a foundation for fortifying the solid relationship between ABS and CMHI (JS).
