Steel Cutting Ceremony of World's First CNG Carrier

Construction began on the world’s first CNG carrier on 28 January 2015. Jiangsu Hantong Ship Heavy Industry Co., Ltd performed the steel cutting ceremony for an Indonesian owner. The CNG carrier is designed by China’s CIMC Ocean Engineering Design & Research Institute and will be dual classed by ABS and the Indonesian class society Biro Klasifikasi Indonesia.

The ceremony also represents a significant milestone for ABS in the gas carrier sector. As the world’s first real CNG carrier, it is more suitable for short distance transportation with smaller capability and thus obtains a low-cost advantage. Its dual fuel propulsion system also highlights its environmental performance and energy efficiency.
