Thousands Gather for the 17th Rio Oil & Gas Exposition and Conference

The Rio Oil & Gas Exposition and Conference, which is held biannually in Rio de Janeiro, showcased 1,300 oil companies, service providers, and Brazilian and international institutions involved in offshore operations this year.

Held in Riocentro August 15 - 18, the 2014 event featured 18 panels, four lectures, and four plenary sessions, as well as 651 technical presentations and dozens of digital posters on subjects encompassing exploration and production, natural gas and energy, HSE and biofuels. A Business Roundtable, a Sustainability Forum, and a Social Responsibility Arena comprised a special component of the 2014 show, which was centered on the theme: “New Geopolitical Scenario: Overcoming Challenges.”

In addition to participating in the technical program, ABS and ABS Group took advantage of their booth presence at the conference to present some of the offerings they provide for the domestic offshore industry. Luiz Feijo outlined some of the recent work being done on floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel life extension, while Mike Sano and Carlos Machado talked about recent ABS involvement with offshore support vessels (OSVs). Dave Forsyth and Sidney Bereicoa discussed next-generation vessels, and Viviane C. S. Krzonkalla presented representative risk-based inspections ABS Group has carried out in Brazil. A team of four from the Rio office – Thereza Moreira, Paula Baptista, Leonardo Gonçalves and Gutyerre Saldanha – took turns showcasing the many ways ABS Group can help international companies succeed in meeting local content requirements.

The presentations, which were delivered in both English and Portuguese, drew more than 200 attendees to the ABS booth and served as a launching point for discussions about the ways ABS and ABS Group can help companies succeed in this dynamic and rapidly evolving deepwater region.
