Designed specifically for onboard use, the QRG summarizes the recently published version 4 of the BMPs in a user-friendly format that can assist the Master and the Ship Security Officer in preparing the vessel for transit through a high-risk area. It also identifies actions to take should the vessel and its crew be attacked.
“This booklet is another tool ship operators can use against the menace of piracy and hijacking” says Hemant Juneja, ABS Director of Management Systems Certification. “It is not intended to replace the BMPs but rather act as a supplement designed especially to give the crew a quick reference guide for protection against these threats. It can also be used as a training tool in shipboard drills and exercises.”
The laminated, pocket-size guide is available from global ABS offices. It may also be downloaded free of charge from the ABS website.
