California Air Resources Board (CARB) - Low Sulfur Fuel Regulations

CARB - Low Sulfur Fuel Regulations

CARB issued a marine notice summarizing adopted amendments to the "Regulation for Fuel Sulfur and Other Operational Requirements for Oceangoing Vessels within California Waters and 24 Nautical Miles of the California Baseline" which, amongst other things, expand the regulatory boundary in Southern California, delay the implementation of the Phase II 0.1% sulfur fuel limit from 1 January 2012 to 1 January 2014 and change the marine gas oil limit effective 1 August 2012 from 1.5% to 1% to align with the date that the 1% sulfur fuel limit takes effect in the North American Emission Control Area (ECA). CARB will begin enforcement of the amendments on 1 December 2011.
