Australia's Requirements for Helicopter Operations - Marine Notice Updated, 2 November 2010

Australia's amended requirements for helicopter operations (AMSA MO 57 Issue 3), applicable to Australian flag ships and ships of other flags undertaking helicopter operations in Australian waters entered into force on 1 August 2010. Amongst other changes, the amended requirements refer to the use of the ICS Guide to Helicopter/Ship Operation, 4th Edition (2008) and require that documentary evidence regarding deck strength be available on board including the maximum weight (tonnes) that can be landed on the nominated helicopter landing area. This information may be provided by, amongst others, the classification society that conducts the ship's surveys. AMSA has issued an updated Marine Notice, 16/2010, on the matter.
