Geoff Wagner

Senior Vice President, Chief Strategy Officer

Geoff Wagner is the Senior Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer for the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS). His team is responsible for aligning ABS’ long-term goals with market opportunities, driving innovation and delivering sustainable growth.

 

Geoff brings over two decades of global maritime and energy experience to ABS, combining operational expertise with strategic vision. He is a graduate of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and began his career as a dual-licensed mariner, gaining practical insights while sailing across the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Oceans. Working on a diverse array of vessels —including tankers, chemical carriers, containerships, ro/ros and offshore drilling units — Geoff developed a strong foundation in understanding the operational, regulatory and technical challenges faced by the industry.

 

In the oil services sector, Geoff held executive roles at Atwood Oceanics and Helix Energy Solutions, where he led global sales and strategy development, managed multi-billion-dollar revenue backlogs and executed major offshore projects. His responsibilities included negotiating shipyard contracts for vessel construction, refurbishment and demolition in key shipbuilding regions like South Korea, Singapore and China.

 

Geoff’s career also includes international leadership assignments in Paris, Budapest, Ghana and Nigeria, where he managed offshore oil rigs and spearheaded strategic initiatives across diverse markets. These roles have equipped him with a global perspective and a proven ability to navigate complex challenges in dynamic environments.
