ABS & KOGAS Host Annual LNG Technology Seminar

Shipowners, operators and managers gathered in Haeundae, Busan, Korea, on May 27, 2016 to participate in the annual joint LNG Technology Seminar hosted by ABS and Korea Gas Corporation (KOGAS). The main focus of the annual seminar is to share knowledge and informational updates on gas industry trends on subjects including LNG fuel, bunkering, and floating storage regasification unit (FSRU) projects.

According to ABS Vice President of Special Projects and Corporate Technology Dr. Hoseong Lee, who gave a presentation on small-scale LNG and LNG bunkering, the global gas industry looks to ABS for this kind of information.  “Nearly 150 people attended this event to hear ABS updates on the most recent technology and market trends,” he said.

Among the guest speakers was DongKyu Choi, Director of Process System R&D Department at Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering, who spoke about partial reliquefaction systems that allow boil-off gas to be used as fuel, removing the need for additional reliquefaction equipment. ABS Vice President of Global Gas Patrick Janssens shared technical considerations for FSRUs, while representatives from KOGAS presented on LNG bunkering activities, the reliquefaction process on floating offshore LNG bunkering terminals and technology development for subsea umbilicals, raisers and flowlines.

The next ABS-hosted event, the Marine/Offshore & Subsea Technology Seminar, is scheduled for Q4 2016.
