ABS Launches 2017 European Cyber Seminar Program in London

Last week ABS launched its series of 2017 European Cyber seminars in London. Held at the ABS European Division headquarters on January 20th, senior representatives from leading owners and operators gathered to learn about cyber security and discuss the ABS CyberSafety™ Guides.

Responding to the needs of owners and operators, ABS organized this half-day seminar to provide an introduction to cyber security, put it into its maritime context and explain how risk-assessment is key to understanding security. Additionally, the ABS CyberSafety Guides and best practice approaches to cyber security, automated systems safety, data integrity and software verification formed part of the discussion.

The seminar was presented by Howard Fireman, ABS Chief Technology Officer, and John Jorgensen, Director of Cyber and Software. “ABS is providing real-time, practical solutions to the cyber challenges owners and operators are facing today,” says ABS Chief Technology Officer Howard Fireman. “Our approach is integrated, taking a holistic view of systems, assets and facilities to create a multi-dimensional solution.”

Following the presentations, participants were given the opportunity to discuss in depth their cyber security concerns with ABS.

The high level attendance at this London seminar highlights the importance of cyber security in the maritime industry. “ABS continues to lead the cyber conversation, delivering the industry’s most practical and actionable guidance through the ABS CyberSafety program,” Fireman says.
