ABS Seminars Provide Update on Marine Regulations

ABS recently hosted Regulatory Update Seminars in Shanghai, Hong Kong, and Taipei where Thomas Kirk, ABS Director of Environmental Performance, discussed US and IMO regulations and some of the implications following MEPC 70. More than 140 representatives including, owners, operators, designers, and shipbuilders took advantage of the seminars.

The seminars provided the background and timeline of environmental regulations, with emphasis on Ballast Water Management, environmentally-acceptable lubricants, air emissions, Inventory of Hazardous Material per IMO and EU, MARPOL Annex V amendments.

To be ready for the upcoming requirements of environmental regulations, owners, operators, and designers are interested in finding the most cost-effective compliance solutions. The seminars help provided the industry the updated information to help them better understand some of the latest regulatory developments and the solution options available for those new challenges.  Each seminar provided a forum for the attendees to ask questions and discuss the latest regulatory developments with ABS technical specialists and other industry leaders.
