Bob Clyne Concludes Maritime Law Association Presidency

On 6 May 2016, ABS Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary Bob Clyne concluded his two-year term as President of the Maritime Law Association of the United States (MLA) at the MLA Annual General Meeting. This coincided with the 42nd Conference of the Comité Maritime International (CMI) 2016, which was hosted by MLA. Clyne served as MLA President from 2014 to 2016.

Clyne received the United States Coast Guard Meritorious Public Service Award, recognizing his contributions to the development of uniformity in maritime law and for his stewardship of MLA for the past two years. American Maritime Cases, the legal case reporter, also recognized Clyne at the meeting and dedicated the 2015 edition of American Maritime Cases to him.

“Serving as President of MLA has been an extraordinary experience both personally and professionally,” Clyne said during his farewell address. “I am proud that I was able to, among other things, oversee the implementation of the new MLA website, create a new committee on cyber security and maintain our strong relations with the Coast Guard on legal issues.”

MLA’s hosting of the CMI Conference also marked it as a historic event. This was the first time CMI held a joint conference with the host association. MLA, which maintains a membership of nearly 2,800, last hosted the CMI Conference 51 years ago.
