Shipowners & Operators Join ABS in Athens for Cyber Seminar

Cyber Seminar Athens

Nearly 100 shipowners and operators joined ABS in Athens on October 18th to learn about cyber security and discuss the ABS CyberSafety™ Guides.

Responding to the needs of Greek owners and operators, ABS organized this half-day seminar to provide an introduction to cyber security, put it into its maritime context and explain how risk-assessment is key to understanding security. Additionally, the ABS CyberSafety Guides and best practice approaches to cyber security, automated systems safety, data integrity and software verification formed part of the discussion.

The seminar was presented by Howard Fireman, ABS Chief Technology Officer, and John Jorgensen, Director of Cyber and Software, and addressed the actions needed to go beyond a step-by-step approach and deliver an integrated, holistic view of systems, assets and facilities.

Following the presentations, participants were given the opportunity to discuss in depth their cyber security concerns with ABS technical specialists.

The high attendance at this Athens seminar highlights the importance of cyber security in the maritime industry.  ABS will continue to lead the cyber conversation and evolve the industry’s most practical and actionable guidance into the ABS CyberSafety program.
