Supporting University Summer Practice with a Look into Class
Nine university students and two instructors from Dalian University of Technology visited the ABS Greater China Division (GCD) headquarters in Shanghai on July 29th, to learn about what a classification society does. ABS GCD HR Director Edwin King provided an introduction of ABS. ABS GCD Principal Engineer Ping Zhou and Senior Engineering Specialist Lian-Hai Liu, both graduates from Dalian University of Technology, shared insights about working for a classification society. The visit concluded with a tour of the divisional office.
The visit to the ABS Shanghai office is one of several visits that make up Dalian University of Technology’s Summer Practice Program, which provides an opportunity for university students to gain a better understanding of the industry and the role of class societies.
Commitment to education made ABS an obvious choice for this program. The organization has awarded scholarships to 12 Chinese Universities, including Dalian University of Technology, with the goal of training professionals for the shipbuilding industry.
