ABS Senior Engineer Demetres Armanes recently represented ABS at the 6th annual Middle East Offshore Support Journal Conference held at the Westin Mina Seyahi hotel in Dubai from April 24-26.

Armanes delivered a presentation introducing the newly published Guide for Smart Functions for Marine Vessels and Offshore Units.

In his presentation, he outlined the functions that the Smart Guide covers related to performance, health, and crew support. He also introduced three new notations that support the recognition of a vessel’s data infrastructure as well as health monitoring functions.

“Through the analytics available to owners and operators provide, smart functions can help proactively manage asset health and performance, providing, therefore, a mechanism for sustainability and improved uptime,” said Armanes.  “Smart functions can also lead to increasingly condition-based approaches to maintenance strategies and class surveys.”

Organized by Riviera Maritime Media, the conference brought together a hundred delegates from the industry, leading shipowners, oil and gas majors, shipbuilders and technology experts to discuss issues impacting the offshore support vessel (OSV) sector, including innovative approaches to managing costs effectively, improving safety and efficiency and the current market opportunities.
