ABS Hosts Barge Small Motor Ship Seminar Nanjing

The ABS-hosted Barge and Small Motor Ship Seminar brought together 50 representatives from shipbuilders, designers and foreign trade companies on 27 July in Nanjing. Attendees exchanged insights and discussed the development of these two market segments in the Jiangsu province, China.

“Since entering the Jiangsu province in the 1980s, ABS has become a leader in classification services for the barge and small motor ship segments,” said ABS Greater China Division Senior Vice President Kwok Wai Lee in his opening remarks. “Shipbuilders in the area have made outstanding contributions to the rapid development of barge and small motor ship markets, making the Jiangsu province one of the most significant shipbuilding bases in China.”

The technical agenda included presentations about the ABS classification process, safety and outlook expectations and concerns regarding barge and tug surveys. Attendees also listened to representatives from trading companies and shipyards as they shared their visions of the shipbuilding market outlook and new construction projects.

The ABS seminar reinforced cooperation and strengthened communication, building on the solid foundation established with Jiangsu province shipbuilding.
