ABS Hosts Feeder Containerships Seminar in Istanbul

More than 65 shipowners, operators, shipyard and designer representatives joined ABS for a half day seminar in Istanbul on 21 June to hear the latest on feeder containerships.

The seminar focused on the latest developments in container feeder ship designs, regulatory compliance options, and smart technologies that can improve performance and drive efficiencies across the industry. 

Seyfettin Tatli, ABS Director of Business Development for Turkey & the Caspian Region, opened the event by welcoming the participants and providing background on the seminar. ABS Director of Regional Business Development, Christian Schack presented the feeder market shipping outlook and also shared ABS’ take on possible feeder containership designs for low carbon shipping, covering topics such as ship technologies, operational efficiencies and alternative fuels and energy sources needed to reach the ambitious 2030 and 2050 IMO targets.

ABS Director of the Containership Market Sector, Jan Otto de Kat explored the topic of sustainability where he provided an update on the environmental regulatory landscape highlighting the current & upcoming requirements related to air pollution and Green House Gas emissions, together with an outline of possible compliance solutions.

Guest speakers Mevlut Civelek, Sales & Customer Support Manager at MAN Energy Solutions and Volkmar Galke, General Manager & Deputy Vice President Sales & Marketing at Winterthur Gas & Diesel Ltd. both delivered presentations on propulsion and fuels for future Container Feeder Vessels.
