ABS Executive Honored for Leadership and Contribution to Women in Shipping
ABS Executive Vice President and Senior Maritime Advisor Kirsi Tikka received the Integration of Women in the Maritime Sector Award at the Seatrade Awards in London on May 7th.
In support of the IMO’s World Maritime Day 2019 theme of “Empowering Women in the Maritime Community,” the award was designed to recognize the inspirational leadership and achievements of one of the Industry’s leading women.
“I am deeply honored by this tremendous recognition, and I thank Seatrade and the judging panel for the nomination,” said Tikka. “During my early career I missed the sisterhood of women and I am happy to see a change. We have come a long way in the numbers and the positions women hold in our industry and I hope that one day it is no longer news, just business as usual. Today that is not the case. We need to proactively attract women to join the maritime community.”
The Seatrade Awards were presented at a gala dinner held at the Guildhall attended by more than 250 key industry leaders, influencers and government officials.
