NCSR 10 Brief

The IMO Navigation, Communications and Search and Rescue (NCSR) Sub-Committee held its 10th session from May 10 to 19, 2023. This Brief provides an overview of the more significant issues discussed at this session, which include matters pertaining to revised standards for Electronic Chart Display and Information Systems (ECDIS) to facilitate digital exchange of ships’ route plans, new navigation guidelines for the Particularly Sensitive Sea Area (PSSA) of the North-Western Mediterranean Sea and improvement of safety for Pilot Transfer Arrangements. While new regulations developed by the NCSR Sub-Committee are not finalized until approved by the Maritime Safety Committee, a review of the Sub-Committee’s activity can provide a forecast of future regulatory developments.
