France’s CO2 Emission Reporting Requirements

As of 1 October 2013, operators of ships transporting passengers or cargo to or from French ports are required to calculate and report the quantity of carbon dioxide (CO₂) emitted during transport services. The requirement does not apply to: ships transiting French waters, ships making stops for refueling or other technical stops in France and ships with no goods or passengers departing from or being transported to a location in France. The Decree and associated Methodological Guideprovide details on to whom and when reporting is required and how the emissions calculations may be done.
